Travelling
We enjoy coming back to green nature. We take deep breaths of healthy fresh air free of dust and smog. Nature has a posisitve effect on man´s physical and mental well-being. Nowadays we are able to travel even to distant countries, where we can get acquainted with new cultures, interesting people and their customs, and compare the differences between the way of living in our country and the land we are visiting. Contacts with people help to deepen our knowledge of the history and development of other countries. Many of us are fond of visiting castles, chateaux, palaces, fortresses, ruins, rotundas, churches, cathedrals and temples. The eye´s of the visitor are often mesmerised by the masterly work of architects and builders. Today´s monuments are a testament to the gradual development of the ages, changing fashions and even political systems. In the past religion had an enormous effect on people´s lives.
When we decide to travel, first we ought to know our destination. We can travel in many ways. The simplest way would be to go everywhere on foot. We don´t need to worry about missing the bus, running out of gas, our car breaking down or getting into a car accident.
Our own feet will také us everywhere we want to go. We can even get to places that we could never reach by car. When we´re tired, we can simply sit down, rest and have a snack. If we like taking longer hikes, which could make us tired, we should take with us proper refreshments, including something to drink. It´s important to include in our backpack adhesive plasters and a bandage. One never knows what may happen.
Another possibility for our travelling is to go by car. Almost every family today owns a car. Travelling by this means of transportation is quite convenient, because the car can take us relatively quickly to wherever we want to go at the moment. All that we need to do is get in and start driving. As drivers, we should, however, respect certain rules and principles. Today´s advanced civilisation builds special roads and motorways for car with rest areas, gas stations and motorests. There a traveller can relax and order a meal, fill up the gas tank, get a car-wash, buy what he needs and then can keep going on his way.
Another popular means of transportation is the bus. Travelling by bus may sometimes be a little uncomfortable, but the situation is gradually improving.
Buses are usually equipped with better seats, dark glass against the sun, air-conditioning, television and radio, and often with toilet as well. Some buses even offer travellers food and drink. In such conditions even a long trip can be rather pleasant. Far more often that long-distance bus lines, we use city mass transit buses. We can get around town also by tram, trolleybus and in Prague also by subway.
When getting ready for a trip to a distant country or to a different continent, we can travel by car, bus, ship or plane. The most attractive option is usually to travel by ship and plane. Planes take us to our destination in a relatively short period of time.
On board a ship we´ll spend more time than in plane. For us, Europeans, a ship is most often used to get from the European mainland to Great Britain and back. On board a ship all is prepared to make the trip as pleasant as possible for the passangers. The possibility of seasickness from the waves is also taken into account.
Bicycle riding is comparable to walking. The reason is that we are spending our own energy to get our destination. The market for bicycles offers mountain bikes or road bikes. Hitch-hiking is a very special type of travelling. Mostly it´s used by young people who aren´t afraid of taking a risk. Some travellers get to very distant countries in this way. Young people travel mainly for the sake of their education, to improve their language skills and often also for fun and adventure.
If we prefer not to travel alone, we can take advantage of the services offered by travel agencies, who will usually take care of all our needs – accommodation, transportation, health insurance, accident and baggage insurance. It´s very important to have a valid passport. It´s also good to get an international health insurance card. If we want to take some animal along with us – our dog or cat, we need also veterinary certificate of our pet´s health. For the duration of our vacations or holidays we may live in a chalet, a boarding house or a hotel. After our arrival at the hotel we can have our baggage brought into the hall. We inform the receptionist of our arrival and then we get a key with our room number. A porter will have brought our luggage to our room. If our room is one of the higher floors, we can take the stairs or use the elevator.
Our room furnishing depends on the category of a hotel we´re staying at. It can be a single room, a double or have even more than two beds. There is also a restaurant at the hotel where we have our breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Close to the building may be a playground or sporting facility designed for guests who like sports. There can also be swimming pools, spas and saunas.
If we like our stay and the room hasn´t been reserved yet for new guests, we can extend our stay. Otherwise we must pay the bill for the services rendered and return home. The trip back tends to be a bit sad also because our vacation or hollidays are over. On the other hand, it´s rightly said that there isn´t place like home.
I like travelling. I want to visit Australia, Great Britain, France, Spain, USA, Canada and others.
I have been to Greece and Croatia. To Greece we travelled by bus with travel agency, but to Croatia we travelled on our own. I like both these countries.
