The film played upon one of Forman's favourite themes, generational conflict (an older composer – Salieri - is jealous of the young Mozart or Mozart’s relationship with his father). For the filming Forman returned to Prague to recreate the world of Mozart – the sets, costumes and theatres – with fanatical authenticity. The film earned eight Oscars - Best Picture, Actor (F. Murray Abraham as Salieri), Screenplay (Shaffer) and a second Best Director Award for Forman. After a five-year break, when he had acted in two films in "Heartburn" and "New Year's Day", he returned to shot an adaptation of Choderlos de Laclos' novel "Les Liaisons Dangereuses", where he casted big Hollywood stars Glenn Close, John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer. In 90´s he shot “The People vs. Larry Flynt” that is about First Amendment lawsuit of pornographer Flynt and his last movie “Man in the Moon”.
