Andy Warhol , undoubtedly the best American artist of the 20th century. It was he, who started the period of Pop art in the world of paintings, drawings, advertisements and other artistic productions. He dedicated all his life to the artistic work and this work makes sense even today. It was one of the most important parts in building up of art history not only in U.S but also in whole world.

Andy Warhol was born Andrew Warchola in Pittsburgh of Czechoslovak immigrant parents from village of Mikova located in northeast Slovakia. He was born in 1928.He showed early his artistic talent and studied commercial art, history, sociology and psychology at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburg. He was not very successful in his education and very often he was misunderstood with his peers and tutors and had many arguments with them.. Upon graduation, Warhol moved to New York where he found steady work as a commercial artist. He worked as an illustrator for several magazines including Vogue, Harper´s Bazaar and The New Yorker and did advertising and window displays for retail stores such as Bonwit Teller and I.Miller shoe company. These earlier jobs influenced his later artistic production very much.

In 1952 he had first one-man exhibition at the Hugo Gallery, New York. He designed stage sets, dyed his hair straw blond and moved into house to New York with his mother and several cats. On his first exhibitions Andy showed almost his production from earlier jobs. Later traveled in Europe and Asia. Everyone was interested in new art style-pop art. In 1962 he produced his silksreen prints on canvas on dollar notes, Campbell´s Soup cans, Marilyn Monroe etc.After some impulses from some agentures Andy started his series of disaster pictures: Car crash, Plane crash, Suicide, Tunafish disaster and Electric chair. Between 1962 and 1964 he produced over 2000 pictures in his „Factory“. His Cow Wallpaper and Silver Pillows were shown at the Leo Castelli Gallery.He showed Ten portraits of Jews of the Twentieth Century at the Lowe Art Museum, University of Miami and the Jewish Museum, New York and POPism, The Warhol´s 60s was published. In 1981 the exhibition Andy Warhol-Paintings 1961-1968 was shown in Hanover. In 1982 he exhibited a series of oxidations and pictures of nazi architecture at the documentary „4“ exhibition. There were exhibited Guns, Knives, Crosses in galleries in Madrid. He made some special works with motive of history which he showed in history museums all around America. In 1968 he made portraits of Lenin, Mao Tse Tung and self-portraits.

Andy Warhol was not just artist but he also put brain into film directing and screenplaywritting. One of his first films was in 1963 movie Sleep (6 hours long) and Empire which was 8 hours long. He made first movie for cinemas Flash, followed by film Trash in 1970. He also created two cable television shows. „Andy Warhol´s TV“ in 1982 and „Andy Warhol´s fifteen minutes“ for MTV in 1986. He was also a writer. In 1986 he brought out his novel „a“ which consisted of telephone calls recorded in his Factory. The first edition of his book „The philosophy of Andy Warhol (from A to B and back again) was published in 1975. He also job at music industry. In 1967 he produced the first record of the rock band „Velvet Underground“ and between 1966 and 1967 made several films with them. Andy Warhol was simply universal artist.

Andy Warhol died on February 22 in 1987 as a result of operation. But his inheritance outlive in the world even today. Many of his works are up to the present day, considered as world best arts and many of today´s artists and designers follow Andy Warhol and his work. About his qualities evidence also museums in whole world where main exhibitions are addicted to Andy Warhol. One of these is also museum in Slovak village of Medzilaborce. It is the first Andy Warhol´s museum ever and only one in Europe. Andy´s artistic works rounded whole world and that´s why is Andy Warhol considered as a legend of Pop art and as matter of fact also history of world art.
