Geography:

The US is the third largest country in the world. It’s a country of 50 states, which is located in North America. It’s bordered by Canada on the north, Atlantic Ocean on the east, Pacific Ocean on the east and by Mexico and Gulf of Mexico on the south.In the east, the Appalachian Mountains extend northeast from Alabama to Canada. East of the Appalachian Mountains is a long, flat lowland area known as Coastal Plains. In the west, the Rocky Mountains extend northwest from New Mexico to Canada and Alaska. West of Rocky Mountains are: the Cascade Range, the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Pacific Coast Ranges. Between the Appalachian Mountains and Rocky Mountains are the Interior Plains.

The biggest rivers are Missouri (3 942 km), Mississippi (3 760km), Rio Grande, Colorado, Columbia,...The biggest city is New York. Other important cities are Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, Phoenix,…

History:

1497 – Christopher Columbus discovered a new continent called America.
1620 – Pilgrim Fathers came to America. First Thanksgiving Day.
1624 – New Amsterdam – NY.
1754-1763 – French and Indian War. The British sent money and soldiers to America to fight the war, but most of the fighting was actually done in the Europe. When it was all over, France was defeated.
1775-1783 – War for independence. War between the Americans and British.
July 1776 – Declaration of Independence drafted by Thomas Jefferson
1861-1865 – American Civil War. The North against the South. Between United States of America and 11 Confederate States of America. The reason was, that Lincoln became a president of US.
1917-1918 – USA in the World War I.
1941 – Pear Harbor. USA in the World War II.
1964-1970 – War in Vietnam1969 – Neil Armstrong on the Moon
2001 – Attack on world economic center in NY
2003 – War in Iraq3.

Economy:

The US has the largest and most technologically powerful economy in the world. Industry: Petroleum, steel, motor vehicles, aerospace, telecommunications, chemicals, food processing, consumer goods, lumber, mining.Natural resources: Coal, copper, lead, phosphates, uranium, bauxite, gold, iron, mercury, nickel, potash, silver, zinc, petroleum, natural gas and timber.Agriculture: Wheat, corn, fruits, vegetables, cotton, beef, pork, poultry, dairy products, forest products and fish. Environment: Current issues include air pollution resulting acid rain. The US is the largest single emitter or carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels. Water pollution from run off pesticides and fertilizers.

Yellowstone National Park – A broad plateau in the Rocky Mountains, on the territory of Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. It is the largest natural reserve in the US. Yosemite National Park – California. In the Sierra Nevada. It includes the highest waterfall in the USAMeteor Crater – Arizona. Made by prehistoric meteor. 25 000 years old.Mount Rushmore – The mountain with the colossal portrait heads of former US presidents. (Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Roosevelt).The Grand Canyon – Made by river Colorado in Arizona. Niagara Falls – 2 Waterfalls on the Niagara River on the USA-Canada border. In state New York.
