-Emmeline Pankhurst is considered as one of the leaders of the suffragete movement in Great Britain.
She founded (established) Women´s Social and Political Union – WSPU. She became a very famous suffragete, who fought for the voting right of women in England.
-She was born in Manchester in 1858. Her father, Robert Goulden, was a successful businessman, who fought against the slavery. Her mother, Sophia Crane, was a passionate feminist.
-She received a traditional education in a girl-school. But her parents put bigger accent on education on her brother. She was sent to a finishing school in Paris when she was 15.
-When she was 20, she met the lawyer Richard Pankhurst (he was 24 older than Emmeline).
-They get married and they had 4 children (Chrisabel, Sylvia, Frank, Adela).
-In 1989 her husband died.
-Emmeline fought very strongly for the female voting right. She was often arrested. In 1928 Emmeline Pankhurst died.
