Jane Austen was born on 16 December 1775 and spent most of her life in Hampshire, in the south of England. Her father was a rector and had a large library. Jane loved reading novels and she herself wrote her first novel at the age of 14. As a young woman, Jane had many friends. She enjoyed dancing and long country walks. When her father decided to move to the city of Bath she was very unhappy. After her father died the family had very little money. They moved to Southhampton and a bit later to Chawton. This is where Jane Austen wrote her major works and also revised a few novels written in her young years. She published Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Predjuce and Mansfield Park which were then followed by Emma and Northanger Abey. In 1816 she become seriously ill. During the last few weeks of her life, she lived and Winchester. She died on 18 july 1817 and she is buried in Winchester Cathedral.
