She was born 27. september 1984 in Ontario in Canada. Her birth name is Avril Ramona Lavigne-Whibley. Her father is French.

Avril started singing when she was two years old. It was country music. After few years Avril won a prize in local radio and she made a duet with country singer Shania Twain. After her thirteen she started to write songs and played on guitar. She was discovered by Cliff Fabri.

Her debut album was Let go. This album was released in 2002 in the United States. This album was a great hit in summer 2002. This album made Avril the youngest soloist to have a number-one album in the UK . That album snagged 8 Grammy nominations and four Juno Awards. Let Go reached multi-platinum status in august.

Avril was named BEST NEW ARTIST.

Her second album was Under my skin. It was released in 2004.
