He took on quite a different role in the next year's Training Day, in which he played a corrupt Los Angeles cop assigned a rookie partner (Ethan Hawke). Washington and his wife, singer-actress Pauletta Pearson, met while filming the 1977 TV movie Wilma. Married since 1983, they have five children and live in Los Angeles.
