PEOPLE IN NEED
Homeless people:
- homeless – who lack fixed housing
- reasons: lack of affordable housing, poverty, natural disaster, escaping domestic abuse, mental disease
- homeless shelter
- their healthcare – a major public health challenge
- are more likely to suffer injuries and medical problems
- reason – their lifestyle – poor nutrition, exposure to the severe weather elements
- free-care clinics in major cities – overburdened with patients

Addicted people:
- addicted to drugs, gambling, food, sex, pornography, computers, work
- treatment of dependency conducted by a wide range of medical and allied professionals (Addiction Medicine specialists, psychiatrists, trained nurses, social workers, counselors)

Disabled people:
- UK: unlawful for organizations to discriminate them in employment, access to goods, facilities, services, managing, buying or renting land or property, education

CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS/CHARITIES
- organizations with charitable purposes only
- non-profit org., not all non-profit org. are charities
- the charity sector’s growing
- they take over services, that used to be provided by the state (health service, elderly care), when it stops fulfilling this responsibilities
- oversight by a government
- required the registration of charities
- report its activities (financial ones – it reduces the possibility of charity fraud)

The Slovak Catholic Charity:
- mission: to provide charitable, social, health and educational services to people without any aspect of their race, nationality or religion
- vision: to decrease the number of people in need
- founded in 1927
- the activity stopped in 1950’ies, started again in 1989
- nowadays: about 1000 employees, 2000 volunteers, who take care of 13000 people in need
- provides help to: abandoned children and young people, families in need, disabled, ill, elderly, dying and homeless people, refugees, migrants, pregnant women and mothers with children in need
