Detva is small town under the volcano Poľana in region Podpoľanie. Detva have 15 000 people and area is 68 088 km². Detva is a district of the Banská Bystrica Region in central Slovakia. In Detva are two rivers Detvianka and Slatina. In Detva is more people who make wood carved crosses. Carving is in Detva very popular.

History

Detva was created as a village of bondage in a deep-forested area belonging to Zvolenská Slatina and Očová upon instruction of the owner of the Vígľaš dominion Ladislaus Csáky in 1636-1638. The first settlers were coal producers from Ľubietová, followed by Walachian-type settlers from northern and eastern parts of Slovakia and immigrants from other surrounding villages. In 1787, Ján Vagač founded the first known manufactory producing bryndza. The settlement became an oppidum in 1811 and a town in 1965. In 1996 the town of Detva became the seat of new Detva district. In 1955 people built factory for military machinery and strategic constructions in the town's woods for security purposes. This factory, called Podpolianske strojárne.

Fujara

The fujara is a large folk shepherd's fipple flute of unique design, originating from Slovakia. It is typically 150-170 cm long. The fujara was included in the UNESCO in 25 November 2005. Detva is centrum of slovak folklor.
