Michael Jordan was American professional basketball player and a leading scorer in the National Basketball Association so called NBA. He led the Chicago Bulls to five NBA championships in the years 1991-1993, 1996 and 1997. He is regarded by many people as the greatest player in NBA history. Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina. He accepted a basketball scholarship from the University of North Carolina where, as a newcomer, he scored the winning basket in the 1982 National Collegiate Athletic Association championship game. He was selected college player of the year for the 1983-84 season and in 1984 he led the United States basketball team to a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He left college in 1984 and started to play for the Bulls. He finished his first season in 1984-85 as one of the top scorers in the league, with an average of 28.2 points per game. He finished the 1986-87 season as the second player after Wilt Chamberlain, to score more than 3000 points in a single season. He led the NBA in scoring for seven seasons with an average of more than 30 points per game in each season. Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to their first NBA title in 1991. With Jordan, the Bulls won again in 1992, 1993, 1996 and 1997. He also won the All-Star game MVP award twice, which is an award for the most valuable player in that season and he won it also in every Final in which he has played. He was also a member of the United States Olympic basketball team, known as the Dream Team, that captured the gold medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, and the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. After his father´s death he lost his joy for playing basketball and officialy finished with his professional career. Early in 1994 Jordan returned to professional sports, this time as a baseball player. He signed a minor contract with the baseball club Chicago White Sox. As he wasn´t so succesful in baseball as he was in basketball, and after recovering from his father´s death, he decided to return to the NBA. He joined his old club, the Chicago Bulls in the middle of the season and helped them to win an NBA championship again. He led the league in scoring during the 1996-97 season with 29.6 per game. Chicago beat the Utah Jazz, 4 games to 2, in the 1997 NBA Finals and Jordan received his fifth NBA Finals MVP award.
