It´s true that sports help us to keep our bodies in good physical condition. They keep us in good mental condition as well, because they offer us refreshments, relaxation and rest. Movement in the fresh air hepls the blood circulation and cleans the lungs. Doing sports help us lose a few of our excess kilos.
In the modern world a positive attitude to sports is becoming something of trend and a hit. Young people, and not just they, try to look sporty and dress in sporty clothes. We go to practise sports at various playgrounds, sport halls, covered pools, stadiums, tennis courts and fitness centres.
We can divide sports into three categories – summer, winter and all-season sports. The summer sports are athletics, aquatic sports, ball games, cycling, hiking, horse racing, skateboarding, roller skating, gliding and others. Nowadays we have different sport halls, so we can practise some sports during winter as well.
The winter sports are skiing, ski jumping, tobogganing, bobsledding, snowboarding, skating, ice-hockey and figure-skating.
The all-season sports are, for example, gymnastics, wrestling, boxing, body-building and table tennis.
Many athletes specialise in jumping – long jump, high jump, triple jump or pole jumping. For pole jumping we need also a fair amount of courage to „fly“. In this sport is very important a precision. We all know that a sportman can be disqualified for overstepping.
Another discipline is running. We can run on short, mid-range or long distances. Running requires a huge amount of persistence, agility and also stamina. Running as a sports discipline specialises mostly in the 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m and 1 500 m races, hurdles, 5 000 m and 10 000m races and the marathon.
We can do sports as an individual person or as a collective.
What about football? Almost every adult man is an admirer or fan of some professional football team. During the match, eleven players move around a football playing field. One of them is the goalkeeper. Other players are the backs, forwards and the so-called reserve. The entire match is watched over by a referee with the whistle.
Volleyball is a competitive sport and a sport for entertainment as well. On the volleyball playing field a net is stretched over the playing area. Over the net is beaten the ball. We should have knee pads for this sport. Each team, as in other collective sports, wears the same dress. In sports we call them sporting costumes.

Quality sport shoes are important as well.
Cycling has become very fashionable. In riding a bike we must pay attention not just to its accessories, but mainly we must know traffic regulations. Undisciplined cycling leads to the risk of traffic accidents. Many people are thus needlessly hurt and some even die-
Most of us swim just for recreation. In summer we allways spend a lot of time near water. We swim, dive and jump. Water sports include swimming for speed, water polo and diving. Aquabelles arouse a great deal of interest and admiration. In the summer we surf on the water or take boat rides. In winter the frozen water surface is suitable for skating.
For winter is typical a lot of snow. We often go to mountains to do downhill skiing, cross-country skiing or the slalom. Other winter sports include sledging, bobsled or bob-sleigh riding. In winter we must beware of being swept away by an avalanche.
There are many sports organizations that hold matches, inter-city competitions and friendly meetings of sportsmen. The best sportsmen can take part in international competitions, in which they represent their country. A professional sportsman usually has his own coach. During physical education children practise not only athletics but also various types of ball games and gymnastics. Physical education is a compulsory subject at elementary and secondary schools.
During adolescence and adulthood we have less and less free time. A sport, like other hobbies, requires time. So we should organise our daily program to have enough time for sports. It isn´t important to cultivate sport competively, as to do so recreationally. It gives us a break from our daily cares and helps to fortify our health. Activity, nature and the fresh air affect to our bad lifestyle positively.
The most talented sportsmen can even take part in the Olympic Games. We distinguish Summer and Winter Olympic Games. They take place every four years. The first games were held in 776 B.C. They were based on the customs of the ancient Greeks. The Olympic Games are an international competition and are a great event on the world of sports. As reward for victory a sportsman may obtain bronze, silver or gold medal.
When we do sports recreationally victory or loss doesn´t have to be of concern to us. It´s good to simply enjoy the fact that we are moving and thus contributing to our good health and physical condition.
