Bratislava
Bratislava is the capital of the Slovak Republic, it is a cultural, social, business and political centre. Therefore it has also a very rich history. In the first century BC (pred naším letopočtom), BA was an important centre inhabited by the Celts. There are graves and other monuments from the period when BA was inhabited by the Romans. At the and of 5 century BA started to be pernamently inhabited by Slavs. BA and Devin Castles became very importent centres of the Great Moriavian Empire. In 1465 the Academia Istropolitana (the frist Slovak University) was founded by King Matthias Corvinus. From 16 until 18 century BA was the capital of the Hungarian Kingdom. The town is situated on both banks of the river Danube. BA is rich in culture monuments. BA Castle fowers on the left bank of the Danube. It was been rebuilt several times. At present, BA Castle is the seat of our government. St. Martin´s Cathedral is situated below BA Castle. It was originaly biult in the Gothic style. Devin is another important sight. It is situated on the left bank of the Danube. This castle, rich in history is only a castle ruin. BA is also an important crossroad of transport. The Danube connects Slovakia with the Black Sea. BA has chemical, petrochemical (Slovnaft), engineering, clothing, food industries (Figaro). BA was an important centre of education. The town has lot of universities and colleges - the University of Jan Amos Komenský, the University of Economics.............
