New York is the largest city in the United States. It is one of the most fascinating cities in the wolrd. It's situated on New York Bay, at the mouth of the Hudson river. The city is composed of five boroughs : Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Broklyn and Richmond. Manhattan Island was sold to the early Dutch settlers for $24 in bartered goods by the Manhattan Indians. It was probably one of the most famous real estate transactions in history. New York City or The Big Apple - as it is nicknamed - is the world's place to visit. It si the center of the financial world, the art world, the media world, the theater world and the fashion world. Its population is about 8 million people (agl. 18 mil). The city is in the milde zone, so its temperature is like in our country. Pleasant summers and cold winters. The weather also depends on the streams of Atlantic ocean.

From entertainment to scyscrapers to restaurants to museums to historical landmarks, New York enjoys the reputation of having the biggest and best of everything.

One of the most famous city's attractions is the Empire State Building. This scyscraper sometimes called "the eighth wonder of the world". It has 102 stories and its height is 449m with television tower.

Another favourite tourist sight is the World Trade Center buildings. The Twin Towers (412m) are among the world's skyscrapers.

The Statue of Liberty with her torch, standing tall in the New York City harbour, was the first sight that greeted millions of immigrants who came to the "new world" during the 19th and 20th centuries. This statue now welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

Saint Patrick's Cathedral is the largest Roman Catholic church in America and the eleventh largest church in the world. The Cathedral chimes have nineteen bells.
