He is a prince like Hamlet and crown of his dead father has gone to his uncle, just as the crown of Hamlet’s father had gone to his uncle. Like Laertes and Hamlet, Fortinbras wants to avenge the death of his father. But unlike them, he has the ability to reason and then act upon the reason. His action to avenge his father’s death and reclaim the lost territory was carefully analyzed and his plan executed. It can be seen from the way Fortinbras quickly gathers his army that he is an energetic leader with clear ambitions. He is a man of courage, honor and action. He gets the dying Hamlet’s vote to be the new ruler of Denmark and he is also the one who offers the final verdict on Hamlet, “For he was likely, had he been put on, to have proved most royally”
Hamlet, Laertes and Fortinbras all had some problems to work out in their lives. The way they worked out these issues is how we see the action behind the men and are able to recognize the behavior that influenced other characters. They all are different in the way they avenged. Hamlet is the one who delays and thinks too much about everything, Fortinbras is the men of reason and action, who does not really care what he fights for as long as it brings him honor and Laertes is the one who acts in rush manner without thinking. .
