Policemen already talk about familiar things. Man seemingly wins. Reader, who is sure of his innocence, is satisfied. Here comes a new element to scene – the conscience. As man calmly chat with policemen, suddenly his his head starts to hurt and he hears some ringing in his eyes. Later he realizes that this is beating of old man’s heart. His conscience worried him this very unusual way, that can be produced just by disturbed mind. When intensity of beating reaches unbearable limit, man looses control over himself, draws boards from floor and confess. At this moment I absolutely change opinion about about sanity of this man.
This story is analysis of mental operation of disturbed person on example of this man. It shows us, how unusual way can conscience appear in disturbed mind.
