Why Should America Act As It Does (Essay)
The war in Iraq is almost over. The Iraqi people are finally free. The Dictator has been removed. And who is the hero? Yes. America. Yes, it’s true that many American soldiers died on the way, but they will be remembered as heroes for they sacrificed their lives for a good reason. Each American life was worth several thousands of Iraqi people saved. . American foreign policy changed from isolationism to internationalism after the WWII. A foreign policy of internationalism means being involved in the world politics and not being focused just on homeland issues. What if America didn’t go fight the Nazis would Hitler still be defeated? What if USA didn’t care about the soviets in the cold war? The soviets would probably already have launched nuclear missiles at us. We were just fortunate that the cold war didn’t emerge into a real war. But in Iraq, we were dealing with a mad man who wouldn’t hesitate to kill everyone in this country. By this action we didn’t only protect us, but many other countries that are on Saddam’s hate list. Let me ask you a question. Would you feel safe in a town without a policeman? Who would you call if something was about to happen to you or someone you see. The world, like your town needs a policeman. Mr. Johnson for the town and America for the world. Yes, America should be the world policeman. America should come when someone is calling for help. The world simply needs someone to keep general order. And let me ask you another question. Do you like cops? When they pull you over and they bust your parties and they when you do something bad they punish you. And usually, the more crimes you commit, the less you want the cops around you and the more you hate them. That’s why the middle east countries don’t like us. And the next question you may ask is if someone else could take this responsibility. Can you give me an example who else in this world is more powerful than America? The British? Germans? Russians? America holds the biggest army in the world and it is also the best equipped and trained army in the world. So why should Germans do it? Why would America need such a big army? To use it to protect the American people and to help people in other countries in the world, of course. Maybe now, some people may see America as a country of arrogant cowboys because we don’t listen to UN at all and we do what we want. As I already said, UN doesn’t do anything to prevent wars or solve problems.
UN is just too big of an organization to be working. Too many cooks spoil the soup. The process of resolution making is very long. Often, when the UN finally comes out with a resolution, the war or conflict is over. The affirmative side says that we need to work with other countries. Working with other countries requires so much time and usually there’s none to spare. If a problem needs to be solved right away, in its roots, we need to act as quickly as possible and not waste time debating moral sides of the action. And even if the Un comes with a resolution. No one ever listen to the UN anymore. And the UN getting weaker and weaker because no one takes it seriously. I think that in a short period of time, it will just disappear. Why do we do this? Why is America always the first one to act if a problem comes out in the world. It’s not its hobby to attack other countries, we don’t do it just for fun. First of all, America gets involved in such conflicts for its own protection. It’s better to stop a problem in it’s origin than wait until it gets out of control. Especially if we’re dealing with a mad man over here. We attack in order to protect our selves. Do we always need to wait for another Pearl Harbor?
I never heard the affirmative complain about Afghanistan. Did we need to make complicated alliances before we went in? Would an alliance of countries make any difference in the war? Yes it would. The Afghani would have more time to run away or prepare a defensive. And what’s the difference between Iraq and Afghanistan?. What do you think the casualties on our side would have been like if we ignored Iraq and let Saddam strike first. And with every day the UN couldn’t make a decision, the attack on USA was getting closer. What would have been the impact of such an attack? All the chemical and biological weapons. The affirmative might say that we need to take more time to negotiate with the countries we are about to attack. I thought that USA doesn’t negotiate with terrorists under any circumstances. Am I wrong? Is Saddam a terrorist? Yeah he is. Do you think that military help for other countries is the only foreign aid we provide? The military aid is just a tiny friction of what we sacrifice every year to make the world better. But no one requires approval for that. Do we need coalitions to distribute food and money to the poor? Military help is just another way of help. It is more costly for us but we still don’t get the thanks we deserve.
For all the soldiers that die to make this world a better place for the less fortunate. Think of what will the generations to come say. What will our grand children learn in history class. They’ll learn that America was a powerful country that unselfishly helped other countries. I mean, can’t you see people? The world needs America. The world needs order. WE need a policeman. Who would take this responsibility if we didn’t? How many people would have to die if didn’t do something? How many Pearl Harbors and 9/11 do we need to realize that we’re not alone on this planet and that we need to take of ourselves and on others. We have to see America as the Father in the family called Earth. A father that gives a helping hand to the children and who strikes with fury the evil cousins. War only creates more problems? Bleh. Not if the war is done with perfection and precision. The rest of the world thinks we’re arrogant? They’re just jealous. Really jealous of our freedom and power. We should concentrate more on domestic issues? And let the enemy strike while we’re unprepared? Please.
